NEW NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE

Dear employer

The Minister of Employment and Labour has gazetted a new National Minimum Wage, effective today, 1 March 2024.

The minimum wage has increased to R27.58 per hour, and is applicable to all employees who fall under the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, as well as domestic- and farm workers.

This amounts to an 8.5% increase, way above the inflation rate applicable at the time of determination.

The wage rates for the wholesale and retail sector and employees on learnerships have also been increased.
